Doing research for my project, I ran across this website call www.slideboom.com. It is really ingenius. You can sign up for free and post your power point presentations on line. No more Cd's to burn, no keeping track of your flash drive Just remeber your pass word and if you cannot remember it do like me embed it. So you know exactly where to find it! This allows you to get feedback from all over the world. Something you could never do before!
Throughout this research period, I have learned that everything eventually comes full circle. With that theory in mind I found www.projjex.com. not only does this site allow for collaboration, it focuses on key aspects of databases and brings together project management .
This application works off of your browser and can be sent to many mobile devices. Since it is all web based no need to download all the documents. Look at all the space that saves! It works off of a dashboard that sends emails and reminders. One great concept about this program is the easy to follow setup and fairly reasonable.
Contains to-do lists, notes, documents, files, time management, cost and even minutes and meeting data. You can add anyone you want for free which makes it ideal for globe trotting business professionals. With projjexs filters it is a snap to compile and sort data and docs.
This program works. Try it for free and decide.
With the increase of palm pilots, PDA's, smart phones it was only a matter of time before companies began offering database services to those consumers. The biggest influx has been in the medical field. www.medscape.com, www.handheldmed.com, www.pdacortex.com only scratch the surface.
Medical pocketpc.com has developed and delivered a mobile version called POC-IT ABX Guide.(www.poc-it.org) currently being used by med-students and doctors around the world. It contains all things medical, pictures, diagnosis, procedures, which medicine will help with the condition, the test parameters.
Another site is www.Handango.com. This contains information from outside the medical community and is more broadly based for businesses. It includes, database management, organizers and yes even games for those slow periods in the airport.
For all things PDA- Check out www.PDAdb.net: Upload data, sort, and create an essential road map. Allows an indivdual to work on excel, access and word docs. All are uploadable.
Project clock allows time tracking. Perfect for the busy business owner or project manager.
For the latest technology check out: WWW.PROJECTLOCKER.com and Scientific Toolworks,Inc.
Entering searches for online databases has led me to a wide array of options. I have been trying to narrow them down by 1)their accessability, 2) their practicallity and finally their interactive qualities. To date I have found more than I can count. I realized I had to be a little more specific in my search so I decided for this post to do only online database tools for businesses. Much better only 2000 or so sites to visit, explore and decide upon.
My first observation is simple. What are the needs of the database? There are literally hundreds of companys that develop and maintain the databases on thier site. This allows the consumer to free up precious storage space and have secure access at the same time. www.versara.com offers 2 variations of databases. I-share and I-gate, I was quite intrigued with the tutorial on I-share. According to the tutorial one can combine documents, reports, customer specifications and even get the status of each item and all of this is based on a project web portal. However, I was never able to actually access it and try it out.
www.Longjump.com is another database driven site. This site offers 360 degree customer manager. It keeps the history and details about each customer and the contracts associated with them. I think this would be great for building repeat business and clientele. The limitations I see are the initial data entry from all existing and previous customers. There is no mention of uploading or reverse engineering. This would definitely be worth while for a new business or one that could support all the data entry required.
I also visited www.acurity.com I found this site to be so-so. It's not really set up as a database tool. It is more of a scheduling program and for people who do that for a living, it looks like it would be useful. For the low price of $10.00 you can get the professional version and create every schedule imaginable to man.
As I began my focus on database tools and their abilities I was quite amazed to find how many sites incorporated both of my topics-databases and project management.Gantt charts, schedules, contracts, and specifications only touch the tip of the iceberg. It seems that no matter what the business is or what it entails one thing is certain. There is a vast number of sites to help accomplish any goal they could set.
My favorite three sites for any business or project team so far are www.projectkickstart.com, www.pmplanet.com and www.method123.com. Project kickstart allows you to begin at the projects conception, it gives you a step by step program, which includes timelines,e-mails,reports, everything in real time. I downloaded the free trial (it's only good for 20 days) but in the week I have used it, I have planned the renovation of my deck, and the building of steel panels with detailed percision and accuracy. Planetpm is a site devoted to all things project management. From the latest internet based training to e-books and the latest and greatest assistance tools. Methods 123 is just that it allows the user the opportunity to interact and set his or her own perimeters. I will continue exploring these sites and many others passing the information on as I obtain it.
Since my last post, I have decided to explore the various database tools available. In my search I have ran across DBD designer. I have been working on this site and find it quite easy and FREE! Like everyone else these days free is a great thing. One of the main features that has intrigued me with this site is reverse engineering. Yes, you heard me reverse engineering. I can take any data from excel, access and anything else you can probably think of and make queries without reentering the data! Not only have I saved multiple hours of rework, but I can actually create new and exciting fields without the headaches that it use to entail. There is an endless array of options and even if you are not a database expert this site walks you through each step. Some might believe this to be a beginners site, but the more you use it the more you realize the capabilities and the vast amount of knowledge incorporated in it.
There are new and exciting options with MySQL, this technology is overwhelming and way above my head. Yet, I hope to explore this avenue more in depth. MySQL workbench offers the latest and greatest tools for any numbers guru. Everything is web based and intriguing. Yet, I find myself more comfortable with the DBD designer.( you can check out both of these sites, just follow the links) I can definitely tell I am only scratching the surface on database options. I have found that most sites will allow you to download a free version, some offer options such as only good for so many days or one project and of course there are the sites whom charge a small amount for service. To date I have found more websites with database tools than I could have ever imaged. Now I have the pleasure of investigating as many as I can and reporting the results. With any luck I will have a top ten list for every level of user. At least that is the Goal.Okay, I am very new to this concept. My area of expertise is coordination. How things flow, how they work together. This assignment is quite different. It's basis is one of compiling and maintaining records. Where do people in the business world go to find the tools they need or want to try for project management, database development both elements that are essential in todays business world. As I begin my research I have found an unlimited number of sites waiting to be tapped for knowledge and utilized to their full extent. Sites for project management tools such as www.matchware.com, www.methods123.com or for the novice www.zoho.com. These are just three out of thousands possibly millions of sites ready to assist the determined individual.
Let's switch our focus for a minute to database construction and it's various uses. Being a numbers and statical data nerd I find myself fascinated with all the possibilities that exist on the surface. My first search has turned up so many productive and unique ideas, that I believe the simple technology of excel and access may actually be obsolete to say the least. There are forums, forms, communities and sites that can extrapolate data anyway one can seem to imagine! To me this is very exciting and challenging all at the same time. One such example that has caught my attention is www.mashable.com. This database takes the effort out of being a geek. I no longer need to know how to program, I can now concentrate on what I want in Statistics and get it in real time from data already collected in any form.
I'm sure you can tell I am only scratching the surface of these two components. However, I can't wait to find out more as I dig deeper into these two subjects, that I find quite intriguing and valuable for my professional development in the years that are quickly approching and surpassing any knowledge that I once concieved possible.
